French
At Worplesdon Primary School we believe that learning a foreign language provides a valuable educational, social and cultural experience for our pupils. It helps them to develop communication skills including speaking, reading, writing and listening and extends their knowledge of how languages work. In order to help the children learn a foreign language, regular connections are made to their mother tongue or other languages they know.
At Worplesdon Key Stage 2 (KS2) pupils follow the Primary Languages Network (PLN) scheme of work, adapted to suit our students.
Throughout the four years of KS2, children will learn songs, rhymes and stories, as well as participating in role play, writing texts of varying lengths and speak French in a variety of contexts. Games are used frequently for learning and revising vocabulary. The topics covered include hobbies, food, holidays, clothes and towns amongst many more. The pupils are also given the opportunity to learn about French speaking countries.
At Worplesdon, our main aim for the children is to foster an interest in language learning by introducing them to French in an enjoyable and accessible way in the hope that they will continue to learn a language in the next stage of their education.
