French
At Worplesdon Primary school we believe that the learning of a foreign language provides a valuable educational, social and cultural experience for our pupils. It helps them develop communication skills including key skills of speaking and listening and extends their knowledge of how language works. In order to help the children learn a foreign language, regular connections are made to their mother tongue or other languages they know.
At Worplesdon Key stage 2 (KS2) pupils follow Lightbulb language scheme of work adapted to suit our school.
Throughout the four years of KS2, children will learn songs, rhymes and stories, as well as participating in role play, writing texts of varying lengths and for a variety of purposes and speak French in a variety of contexts. Games are used frequently for learning and revising vocabulary. The topics covered include hobbies, food, holidays, clothes and towns. The pupils are also given the opportunity to learn more about French speaking countries.
At Worplesdon, our main aim for the children is to foster an interest in language learning by introducing them to French in an enjoyable and accessible way in the hope they will want to continue learning a language in the next stage of their education.
