key Information

Worplesdon School is a happy and successful community where every individual is valued and involved. The school prides itself on positive relationships between children and children and teachers. The children are very welcoming and open.

The school’s main aim ….

“that children develop a love of life and learning by

providing a curriculum within which they may

achieve personal success”

is achieved by :

· Ensuring that children achieve excellent standards in the core subjects.

· Ensuring that all children receive a broad and balanced curriculum by providing quality time, facilities, specialist teaching and exciting opportunities.

· Ensuring that the personal, social and health needs of children are supported and developed.

To support the broad and balanced curriculum and the development of the creative arts in the school community raised the funds for and built a dedicated Performing Arts Centre in 2003. In 2005 we further enhanced the curriculum by reducing group sizes for music to a maximum of 20. The juniors also have French and P.E. lessons with specialist teachers in groups of no more than 20. Creative Arts days, themed weeks, visits and visitors help to enrich the opportunities enabling all children to be fully involved.

Since 1997 the school has grown from 320 pupils to 410 pupils today. The school increased its intake from 43 to 60 resulting in the school reorganising mixed aged classes to two single aged classes in each year. This was completed in 2002. As the school increased in size considerable development of the school facilities has taken place to support the school ethos.

The school now has two classes per year group, fourteen classes in total.

The school has had two very successful Ofsted Inspections in 2000 and 2005 as well as twice gaining accreditation as an ‘Investor in People’.

Children are encouraged to contribute to the school community through participation in the School Council and House System. These together with opportunities such as mentoring younger children and supporting other classes and activities enable children to develop leadership skills and responsibility.

In the last two years the school has played an active part in the formation and activities of the “North Guildford Schools Confederation”.
